Bio:
Greetings all! I have looked forward to reading
all of the bios that have been posted, but have really hesitated to do mine.
I have a problem of being too verbose, but will try to stick to the simple
facts.
I graduated from DLC in 1967, went on to MTSU as a
graduate assistant, graduating in 1968, with a M.Ed in Health, Physical
Education, and Recreation. I have since added an Elementary Education
endorsement to my certificate.
In the fall of 1968, Carole Lowe and I embarked to
Cochran, Georgia, Carole as a library assistant, and me as a teacher at Middle
Georgia College. Couldn't wait to get back to Tennessee at the end of the
year. That fall, I taught P.E, coached basketball and tennis at DLHS. In
1971 I transferred to DLC to teach and coach. I stayed there for four years.
In December, 1970 I married Ronald MacDonald (go ahead and laugh, I am used to
it now, still think we should eat free at McDonald's). Our first son, Scott,
was born in May of 1973 while I was at DLC. When he was two, I decided I
wanted to be a stay-at-home Mom so I quit my job and we moved to Hickman
County (I thought it was the end of the world). Our second son, Jeff, was
born in 1976 on his brother's birthday. I stayed home for 4 years and nearly
went crazy.
The next phase of my life was spent as a teacher
in the Hickman County School System. For five years I taught P.E. (K-8) then
I went to the classroom as a seventh grade math teacher. I continued to teach
math until I retired this spring. While at East Hickman Schools, I also
served as assistant principal of the middle school, athletic director, and two
different times coached girls basketball. Lynda Weimer and Wayne Damico also
taught there some of the time.
Ronald retired from the Post Office in 2001, we
sold our home in Hickman County in 2002, and moved to Lincoln County to be
closer to our new grandson, William. For three years I taught Math at a
school here. Ronald and I spent about 14 months building our present house.
We had built the one we lived in in Hickman county, so were expecting this one
to be easier. What we didn't expect, was the difference 10 years can make in
endurance. Both our sons think we are on the weird side, because we live
completely off the grid (if you don't know the term, we do not have bought
electricity) We are completely solar. Creates interesting conversations in
the classroom.
Scott lives in Huntsville, Al and works at
Redstone Arsenal and has two children, William, 3, and Kimberly, 4 months.
Jeff is married, lives in Fayetteville, and works for Coke. He and Carla do
not have children yet, but have a pug that thinks she's human.
I just retired and am looking forward to many
years of working around the house. I enjoy woodworking, so we have recently
built a shop and now have to organize it so we can use it. I plan to spent
lots of time working there and rocking my grandchildren in the coming years.
Hope to see all of you at the reunion.
Jenny
